ABSTRACT
The study determined the benefits of pursuing the humanities and social sciences as preparation in college at Nasugbu East Senior High School. Phenomenological research method was employed in the study that involved five (5) students were the respondents of the study selected through convenience method.
Based on the gathered data, the following conclusions are made about the benefits of pursuing HUMSS strand such as developing critical thinking skills through exposing to critical writing, improving creativity, providing opportunities and overcoming their fears. In addition, the effectiveness of studying the humanities and social sciences in college readiness and academic performance are students boost their abilities to make and analyze critical decisions, develop their self-esteem and also overcome their fears. Lastly, the prolonged impact of pursuing Humanities and social sciences is to enhance their capabilities in communication skills, broaden perspectives in different aspects and having personal growth.
Moreover, the study recommended that teachers should provide programs that tackles about humanities and social sciences strand that will help them build their career paths. For the guardians of the student, they should provide a program for the parents that will help them to have broadening knowledge about humanities and social sciences. Lastly, they should utilize handbook that full of insights about different careers paths that aligned in humanities and social sciences strand these will be guide for that learners.

INTRODUCTION
In this era, K-12 program becomes essential among students to be readier and more prepared in tertiary level. The goal of K-12 program is to create a functional basic education system that will produce productive and responsible citizens equipped with the essential competencies and skills for both life – long learning and employment. This program will enhance the basic education system to full functionality to fulfil the basic learning needs of students. This is in line with the agenda of the President Aquino of having quality education as a long-term solution to poverty, to achieve these goals (DepEd, 2013.)
As stated by Alcantara et al. (2021), Humanities and Social Sciences is a Senior High School (SHS) strand. Because the concepts in this strand center on enhancing students' writing, reading, and speaking abilities, it is advantageous to students who lack confidence and self-worth. Students who want to work with many individuals as members of society have chosen this path.
Based on the data given by DepEd (2015), one hundred forty-five thousand eight hundred forty-four students (145,844) choose to take humanities and social sciences strand. In the survey's results, 2.3% of the students chose GAS as their senior high school strand, 15.9% chose HUMSS, and 73.9% chose STEM, leaving the ABM strand with 8. The second strand that students preferred in senior High School is Humanities and social sciences.
To identify the benefits of pursuing humanities and social sciences strand as preparation in college, researchers want to explore the areas where learners would be more knowledgeable in choosing career paths. It is desire of researchers, therefore, to seek out investigation of benefits of humanities and social sciences strand to develop student-handbook that provide an insight about set of programs to pursue in college.
METHODOLOGY
This study used Qualitative Approach using phenomenological research design. This type of approach aims to study the phenomenon or experiences of people. Also, it gives an idea how individuals or a group of people react of experience a certain phenomenon. In order to help students make the best career decision for them, the researchers in this study aim to learn more about the experiences of students majoring in the humanities and social sciences.
The study was conducted in Nasugbu East Senior High School located at Brgy. Lumbangan, Nasugbu, Batangas, It was founded in the year 2024. The school was headed by the principal II, with forty-six (46) teachers and three (3) non- teaching staff. It has a total population of one thousand three hundred four (1,304) enrolled students comprising the grade 11 and 12 school year 2023-2024. The school offers academic which includes Accountancy Business and Management (ABM) strand, Humanities and Social science (HUMSS) strand, Science, Technology. Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand, and Technical, Vocational, and Livelihood Track (TVL) strand.
Using Convenience Sampling, the researchers selected five (5) participants that are convenient to involve in the study. This saved researcher's time and effort in looking for participants who will participate in this study. The participants were between the age of 19-21 years old from Barangay Malapad na Bato Nasugbu, Batangas.
In this study, researchers made a semi-structured interview tool. A semi- structured questionnaire is a type of interview in which the interviewer asks only a few predefined questions while the rest of the questions are not planned.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter presents the data gathered, analysis and interpretation to answer the problem which this study aims to achieved.

Interpretation for table 1:
All the participants responses are about exposure to critical writing, improve creativity, provide opportunities and overcome their fears. Table 1 shows the impact of humanities and social sciences in the critical thinking skills among the learners. Three (3) stated about developing their skills through improving creativity and critical thinking and the rests stated about providing opportunities and overcoming their fears.
The result was connected of the beliefs of Stenberg and Halpern 2020, that critical thinking allows people to solve problems more creatively, independently, and effectively.

All the participants responses are about the goal and objectives of humanities and social sciences strand, communication skills, self-esteem and understanding of social issues. Table 2 shows the ideas of benefits that participants know when they are choosing the humanities and social sciences. Two (2) directly said are about communication skills and the rests stated about the goal and objectives, self-esteem and understanding of social issues. The result of this was connected of the study of Reedley 2022, which stated that by choosing humanities and social sciences senior high school students can gain important knowledge and abilities that will help them stand out from their peers in terms of confidence and competence.

Interpretation for Table 3:
All the participants responses are about improving self-esteem, goals of humanities and social sciences, sharpening the critical thinking, enhancing the public speaking skills. Table 3 shows the impact of humanities and social sciences in academic performance of the learners. Two (2) directly stated that the impact is improving self-esteem, and the rests stated about sharpening the critical thinking, enhancing public speaking, and goals of this aforementioned strand. The result of this was connected to the study of Santiago 2023, according to him by choosing humanities and social sciences as part of their educational experienced, they tackled a journey of personal growth, and skill beyond classroom walls.

Interpretation for Table 4:
All the participants responses are about broadening perspectives in different aspects, self-esteem and personal growth and overcoming their fear. Table 4 shows the long terms effects of pursuing Humanities and social sciences strand on the personal lives of individuals. Two (2) stated about the broadening perspectives in different aspect, another two (2) stated about improving self-esteem and personal growth, and only one (1) said about overcoming fears. The result of this was connected of the beliefs of Magana et.al. (2020), stated that the advantageous for the students to choose the humanities and social sciences strand, which provides a variety of activities to help students build their self-esteem and broadening their perspectives in life.

Interpretation for table 5:
All the participants responses are about strong analytical and critical thinking skills, communication skills, creative writing and public speaking and strengthening their ability to make and analyze the decisions. Table 5 shows the long terms impact of humanities and social sciences in professional lives of individuals. Two (2) directly stated about the strengthening their ability to make and analyze the decisions, and the others stated were about communication skills, public speaking, and creative writing skills. The result of this was connected about the study of Bouchrika 2024, stated that graduates of humanities and social sciences programs have flexibly lifelong abilities, including the ability to make critical decisions, lead a team and etc. Their careers become more meaningful, impact, and captivating because of their increased standard of life.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn.
1. Most of the participants’ answers on the development of critical thinking skills among the learners are exposing to critical writing, improving creativity, providing opportunities, and overcoming their fears.
2. Most of the participants’ answers on the effectiveness of studying the humanities and Social Sciences in college readiness and academic performances are boosting their ability to make and analyze critical decisions, developing their self-esteem and overcoming their fears.
3. Most of the participants’ answers on the prolonged impact of pursuing Humanities and social sciences are to be enhancing their capabilities in communication skills, broadening perspectives in different aspects, and having personal growth.
RECOMMENDATIONS
From the preceding conclusions, the following recommendations are offered by the researchers.
Teachers provide programs that tackles about Humanities and Social Sciences Strand that will help them build their career paths.
Administrators should provide a program for the learners that will help them to have a broadening knowledge about the humanities and social sciences.
School should have a handbook that full of insights about the different careers paths that aligned in humanities and social sciences strand.

Counselors and teachers play a key role in making sure this happens and can help students find academic success in college. In the research this one is one of a must that the students had its for them to be prepared in college.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: A phrase that refers to activities designed to improve talents, potentials, employ ability, and even wealth. Anytime you are consciously trying to improve yourself, you are participating in personal development. In this study personal development is one of the benefits in the humanities and social sciences strand.
CRITICAL THINKING: In this study it refers to every learner that need to be able to think critically because it helps them solve difficulties, particularly when they are learning and in real world social circumstances.
