INTRODUCTION
Teaching is a relationship which is established between three focal points in education; the teacher, the taught, and the subject matter to be taught. It is called “tripolar process” in view of the basic elements involved in teaching Dhaka,2023). Teaching is a complex art of guiding students through a variety of selected experiences towards the attainment of appropriate teaching-learning goals. According to Burton, teaching is the stimulation, guidance, direction, and encouragement of learning. In the teaching process, the teacher attends to the needs, experiences, feelings of pupils, and making specific interventions to help them learn particular things. Interventions commonly take the form of questioning, listening, giving information, explaining some phenomenon, demonstrating a skill or process, testing understanding and capacity, and facilitating learning activities such as note taking, discussion, assignment writing, simulation, and practice. The order to identify areas where teachers may have difficulties and problems. The researchers want to explore their teaching practices in the classroom.
The researchers seek out interviews among teachers in Nasugbu East Senior Highschool to provide an intervention program that will help them improve their teaching strategies.
METHODOLOGY
This study used Qualitative Approach using phenomenological research design. This type of approach aims to study the phenomenon or experiences of people. Also, it gives an idea how individuals or a group of people react or experience a certain phenomenon. In this study, the researchers want to study about the experiences of teachers about problems and difficulties faced by senior high school teachers in teaching.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter presents the data gathered analysis and interpretation to answer the problem which this study aims to achieve.
Table 1: Challenges encountered as a Senior High School teacher when it comes to classroom management.
(First is the noise of the children and their different characteristics and beliefs.) |
(Improvement of classroom and children will follow you .) |
(It is difficult for teachers to make senior high school students follow them because they are at their age. ) |
(The majority of senior high school students have the responsibility of following the rules because they are of an age at which they can make decisions on their own and do anything.) |
(Some students do not follow basic instructions. More rebukes than lessons are given.) |
Interpretation of table 1
All the respondents’ responses are about the noisiness of the students and the different characteristics and beliefs of students. Table(1) shows that beautifying classroom and children can follow you. It is difficult to make senior high school to obey because they are at their age. And there are some students who do not obey simple orders, there is more reprimanding than teaching. The majority of senior high school students have the responsibility of following the rules because they are of an age at which they can make decisions on their own and do anything Some students do not follow basic instructions. More rebukes than lessons are given.
According to Resoor (2023) The teachers should improve the quality in maintaining the classroom discipline by creating a conducive classroom and involving the students in setting the classroom rules, such as attendance, learning participation, students and teacher actions, and assessment.
TABLE 2: Ways to address or overcome the challenges in teaching.
(Increase your patience, spend more time with kids, and have a positive attitude. If you don't have these qualities, it will be difficult to teach every day.) |
(Patience is always need because today children are not only in studies, but also in behavior, because we can say that the attitude of the child is coming from their house, teacher is |
R3 | Good and healthy relationship sa kanila kase pag intouch ka sa mga bata at alam nilang ganon din sila sayo susunod din sila kumbaga pag mahal mo ang mga bata mamahalin ka rin nila inreturn pag may gusto ipagawa susunod sila. ( It is a good health relationship with them because if you’re in touch the children and they know that they are the same ,they will follow you ,as if you love the children, they will love you in if you want them to do something they will follow you.) |
( I think it depends on how you talk to them or order them so it should be necessary to talk to them in a proper way) |
By telling a story using their name to get their attention) |
Interpretation of Table 2:
All the respondent responses are about patience, good and healthy relationship, how to talk order the student, telling a story using the name of student. Table 2 shows how teachers overcome challenges in their daily teaching. Two (2) of them said that patience is the most important because of the behavior shown by the children and the rests stated that a good and healthy relationship with the children to obey them, strategy on how to talk to and order them, and by telling stories using student's name to get their attention. According to study of Onyango, et.el (2023), the study recommended that there was a need for teachers to create a positive professional relationship with their students and adopt different instructional approaches to ensure effective teaching delivery of the content.
TABLE 3: Challenges in delivering subject specific content.
For me there are subject that are really difficult specially the core subject they will not understand or will notlisten to what the teachers teaches , one of them is the surroundings specially now the weather is hot it is difficult to deliver a subject.) |
R2 | Natural ituturo mo yung hindi lang sa libro ituturo mo kung papasan gumagalaw yung sa localization kung anong meron siya dapat gawin kase hindi natin kailangan ipilit na for imaginary lamang ,dapat ikaw ay masinop dapat alam mo kung saan papasok ang ituturo mo.(Naturally your teach was not just in the book your teach how to move the localization of what he has to do because we don’t have to insist that its only for imaginary you must be provident , you must know where what you teach will enter.) |
R3 | Ang subject kong reading and writing tulad na sa recitation lalo na sa speanding medyo hirap sila dahol sa takot silang magkamali ,mahusgahan sa madaling salita kaya ayaw nila maki cooperate.( My subject reading and writing like recitation ,especially in speaking they are difficult because they are afraid of making mistakes of being judge in other words, they are afraid, so they don’t want to cooperate.) |
It is hard for us to make students listen to our advice if we speak inappropriately since they have their own decisions. So, we need to change our approach for them to understand well. .) |
Interpretation of table 3
All the participants’ responses are about lack of resources, lack of support, and technological challenges. Table 3 shows challenges in delivering subject specific content. Three (3) said that there are shortage of books and instructional materials while the rest stated that they felt unsupported by administration and struggle with training on how to integrate technology in instructions.
The result was related to the study of Hikmat, et.al (2021) which examined and identified the challenges encountered by the teachers in the implementation of the Senior High School Curriculum and the relationship with the performance rating of teachers.
TABLE 4: Common problems in maintaining students’ engagement.
R1 | Karamihan sa estudyante kapag huling asignatura na umuwi na sila at may ibang problema sa bahay o ginawa o di kaya maraming ggawin sa ibang asignatura.( Most students, if it is the last subject they have already got home, and they have a problem at home or working on other chores, or maybe there is a lot of work in other subjects.) |
There is a proverb that says you have to follow them regardless of what the current is because if you disagree, you won't be able to fully understand each other because today's young people are different.) |
R3 | Pag-uugali dahil ang SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL meron silang sariling pagpipilian , pag gusto nila may paraan pag ayaw may dahilan yun talaga ang problema ng mga guro sa SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL hirap pasunudin bukod dun modern technology sa social media mas fun kaya doon mas sinusunod nyo mas ginagawa ninyo ang trending .(When it comes to behavior because SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL they have their own choice ,if they want there is a way if they dont want there is ar reason that’s really the problem of the teachers in the SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL its hand to follow apart from that modern technology in social media it’s more fun that’s why ypu follow more more you do the trending.) |
R4 | Masyadong maraming klase ng teknolohiya kung saan sila ay gumagamit ng telepono habang nasa klase .( There are too many classes of technology where they are using phones while class.) |
(There are many obstacles, such as noise, wandering classmates, and the output of other subjects that become the priority of other students.) |
Interpretation of table 4
All the respondent responses are about patience, good and healthy relationship, how to talk and order the student, telling a story using the name of student. Table 2 shows how teachers overcome challenges in their daily teaching. Two (2) of them saying that patience is the most important because of the behavior shown by the children and the rest say that a good and healthy relationship with the children to obey them, strategy on how to talk to and order them, and by telling stories using student's name to get their attention. According to study of Onyango, et.el (2023), the study recommended that there was a need with their students and adopt different instructional approaches to ensure effective teaching delivery of the content for teachers to create a positive professional relationship.
TABLE 5: Common problems in maintaining motivation in the classroom.
The problem is with students on how they will listen to and cooperate with the teacher.) |
(It is hard if the students do not obey, just like at their parents, so they should teach their child so that they will not be a problem to the teacher.) |
The lesson should focus on the real-life situation because it is better for students to experience making their own output. Once they have no idea, it can't be read alone, but it should be happening in real life. ) |
(Sometimes they want a reward that they don’t really deserve.) |
(Sometimes they want a reward that they don’t really deserve.) |
Interpretation of table 5
All the respondents responses are, The problem is with students on how they will listen and cooperate with the teacher so that the teachers don't have any problem and they should also focus on what is really going on the lesson because the students can keep up with what they are experiencing because otherwise they have no idea, and they would rather have a reward that they don't really deserve. Table (3) shows that the common problems faced by senior high school teachers is maintaining student’s engagement, and there are other students who are not interested in the subject being taught.
According to the study of Chamberlain, et.al (2019), student-teacher relationships that improve over time may help slow or prevent declines in student motivation. In a diverse sample of 1,274 middle and high school students from three schools, this mixed-methods study found that those who improved in developmental relationships with teachers reported greater academic motivation, and more positive perceptions of school climate and instructional quality.
