ABSTRACT

The study determined the Productivity During Free Time of Grade 11 students in Nasugbu East Senior Highschool, Brgy. Lumbangan Nasugbu Batangas, Academic Year 2023-2024.  Phenomenological research design was employed in the study that involved a total of two hundred ninety-five (295) population of Grade 11 students. Five (5) Grade 11 students were the respondents of the study selected through Convenience Sampling method.

INTRODUCTION

In the constantly evolving field of education, increasing student output is the highest priority. One important topic that has received little study is the investigation of the factors affecting students’ productivity in their free time. As students balance the responsibility of extracurricular activities and challenging academic work, it becomes more important to understand the minor factors that influence their performance in their free time. This study aims to explore the complicated relationship between all these factors, which include psychological, environmental, and personal factors. This study focuses on understanding the variety of problems affecting student productivity during free time to provide essential information that can guide methods of teaching and support systems, ultimately producing a better learning environment.

Every week people spend many hours working, going to school or being engaged in some form of other, often imposed, duty or activity. Yet, there is still a huge amount of time, according to some authors even 40–50% of the time spent awake (Larson & Verma, 2013), that is qualified as free time or leisure.

In addition, Maldonado (2021), scheduled free time in the school day can be challenging to accommodate, finding the time to make it happen is worth it. Free time provides students with a sense that they are trusted, responsible members of your school community. It gives them the time they need to process and recuperate between classes. As a result, they will be more engaged in their classes and more excited to come to school every day.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter represents the methods of research used. It also includes the research design, locale and participants of the study, research instrument, construction and validation of instruments, ethical considerations, data gathering procedures, and data analysis.

This study used Qualitative Approach using phenomenological research design. This type of approach aims to study the phenomenon or experiences of people. Also, it gives idea on how individuals or a group of people react or experience a certain phenomenon. In this study, the researchers want to understand the experiences of students choosing Humanities and Social Sciences Strand.

The study was conducted in Nasugbu East Senior High School located at Brgy. Lumbangan, Nasugbu, Batangas. It was founded in the year 2016. The school was headed by Principal II, with forty-three (43) teachers and eight (8) non-teaching staff. It has a total population of one thousand two hundred seventy-eight (1278) enrolled students comprises grade 11 and 12 this School Year 2023-2024. The school offers academic which includes Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) strand, Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS) strand, Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand, Technical Vocational and Livelihood Track (TVL).

Using Convenience Sampling, the researchers selected five (5) participants that are convenient to be part of study.

In this technique, the researchers saved time and effort in looking for participants who will participate in the study. The participants were the Senior High School students in Nasugbu East Senior High School who were between 16-19years old and lived in the Nasugbu, Batangas and Tuy, Batangas.

HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT is the social, emotional, physical, mental, and intellectual growth of a person. Taking a holistic approach to education means focusing on all aspects of a child’s growth, not just their academic advancements. Operationally, it refers to periods when individuals are not engaged in work or other obligatory tasks, allowing them the opportunity for leisure, recreation, and personal pursuits.

LIFE-STUDY balance is a state of harmony between an individual’s studies and personal life. Getting a formal education is considered necessary today. As such, high school and college students consider studies a means to an end. This mentality usually creates a rift between study life and personal life (Rouà, 2022). In this study it helps students by effectively managing their time, setting goals, maintaining healthy relationships, managing stress, and being flexible in your approach, you can navigate college life with success and well-being.
